The Constellation of

APUS

Background:
Apus
(the Bird of Paradise) is a very small-sized constellation consisting of only 4 stars of almost equal brightness. It was named after the Indian Bird of Paradise.

Where is it?
Southern hemisphere observers will find Apus very near to the southern sky pole. It can be see whole year round. Apus is not too difficult to find, being close to the relatively bright constellations of Triangulum Australe and Musca and due to its conspicuous shape.

Finding it:
The best way of finding Antlia is to star hop from stars in Triangulum Australe (near the pointers and Crux). Move nearer to the south pole and you will see constellation looking like spoon - Apus.

Descriptions are based on evening observations, for the southern hemisphere and more specifically for Southern Africa.

Summer = Dec, Jan, Feb
