Background:
Aries (the ram) is small constellation with only a few stars. However, tts alpha and beta stars, Hamal and Sheratan is very prominent in that part of the sky, being some of the brightest stars in a relatively dark area of the sky. Many different ancient cultures related this pattern of stars to a ram.

Where is it?
Aries is easily visible in spring and mid-summer for its southern hemisphere observers, just above the northern horizon in the evenings between Pegasus/Pisces and Taurus. Aries forms a familiar pair with Triangulum in the northern skies.

Finding it:
Aries is quite easy to locate if you use a planisphere, due to its two brightest stars. Alternatively, you can wait for Pegasus to cross the meridian in mid Summer and just look to the east for Aries. Look for Hamal and Sheratan and observe Triangulum while you're at it!
